Marte,
My copy of geoPublish arrived today, so I'm ready for my next big GEOS
move. Also have ordered geoFile; looks like I've got the GEOS fungus! <grin>

Have fun with geoPub, Bob. Make sure you run the Tutorial through at least
once. It's not perfect, but it does do a dandy job of introducing you to the
various features of the program.
By the way, if you try to run geoPub under GEOS 128, be sure you switch to the
40 col screen *before* you open geoPub. There is a little hiccup in the
program that often causes everything to crash if you open geoPub and then
answer "yes" to the dialog box that says "Runs in 40 column mode only; switch
modes?" I've hit that one so many times by now that you'd think I'd learn. :)
I was a beta tester for geoFile 128, and I like the program a lot. Just wish
it would print out in some font other than BSW.
I have ten different GEOS boxes here, and my computer hating mother keeps
asking me why I don't write a book about them. Hmmm... :)

Marte,
GEOS certainly needs a good, current book or two. Get to it!
BYW, I'm a C64 user, but thanks anyway for the 128 info.
(I should say, a C64 user with delusions of becoming an Amiga user.)

The problem with writing books is that it takes *ages* between the time the
manuscript is finished and the time the book actually hits the stands.
That's no excuse, I know. I should get going on it.

Marte,
If every potential author had your attitude, the shelves of our libraries
would be virtually empty! <grin>
In the meantime, I'm having a hell of a time with geoPublish. I'm sure I
can whip it sooner or later, but it's not coming easy. I've done the tutorial
three times, and haven't got it right yet. The provided text formats itself
double spaced and with too much left margin; it seems very awkward to go in
and, section by indistinct section, select and change the typeface, spacing,
and margins.
I must be overlooking something (I hope!).
When in doubt, re-read the manual, right?

You might check the text file by copying it to a work disk and looking at it
with geoWrite Workshop. Maybe they sent you a messed-up file. It's been known
to happen!
Come to think of it, I don't remember which fonts were used on that thing. And
if I remember right, the instructions don't specifically say to make sure you
have the proper fonts on your work disk. Hmmm (digging out disk) Guess you
should make sure you have the LW_Roma font on your work disk, if you didn't do
that already. That appears to be the only one on the geoPub disk.
By the way, speaking of geoHassles, I was given a copy of geoDex for Christmas,
and after I installed it I realized I'd never use it. So I gave it to my
daughter. She tried to run it today and it wouldn't run; gave the "use the
disk you booted with" message. I figured the serial number probably needed
editing, so I tried editing it with geoHacker. That didn't work either. THEN
it dawned on me that she had v1.2 rather than 1.3, so I'd been editing the
serial number in the wrong place! Once I changed it, all was well. Never saw
such a happy 8-year-old in your life. :)

Bill,
For best results in geoPub, you want to do as much work as possible in
geoWrite, before the files get to geoPub. Also, don't ignore the MODE/EDIT
menu option, which puts you into a miniature geoWrite, without ever having to
exit geoPub. When I bought geoPub, it was to do a single page project that I
*needed* to do, and couldn't accomplish without it. I never regretted buying
it tho, it's fun! Learning it does take a while, though.

Ed,
Yes, I've used the edit mode, but the area of text you work on is not
clearly delineated.
It never occurred to me to examine those tutorial text files to see their
margin and font settings BEFORE pouring them into the columns. Hmmm... I'll
give it a try. Thanks to you and Marte- again!
Bob
